May 2007:SKYGUARD lone worker protection service takes off
Since 2006, more than 100 UK organisations have now signed up to the Skyguard emergency response service to protect their lone workers – with over 800 of Skyguard's palm-sized personal safety alarms already being carried by staff in vulnerable positions.
Early beneficiaries of the system, which has been developed in Britain, include housing association wardens and rent recovery officers, hotel night porters, parking attendants, financial services representatives, service engineers, school employees, security guards and victims of domestic violence.
Each faces different potential problems while working alone: threats of actual physical violence; being the only employee on duty on the premises; making home calls in antisocial neighbourhoods; or simply repairing equipment in isolated locations. What unites them is the need for the right response to a precise location when they get into trouble.
All these organisations chose Skyguard for the completeness of its service and the benefits it offered their businesses - from the flexibility of its specialist GPS/GSM SkyMinder device, combined with the 24/7 alarm handling by its emergency response centre controllers, through to the fast reaction by either the emergency services or the company's own national support team.
Recent call-outs have already resulted in police attendance at a threatening incident in as little at 7 minutes from Skyguard's personal safety alarm emergency button being pressed.Skyguard users include
- Night porters at MacDonald Hotels
- HSBC employees
- National Grid engineers working alone, often up masts
- NCP parking attendants
- National Trust heritage and conservation staff, often in remote places
- Forestry Commission staff
