The GEMshield is a compact, lightweight personal safety device incorporating the latest GPS and GPRS technologies.

The primary feature of the GEMshield is the alarm function which is activated by pressing the SOS panic button. Once activated, an alarm message containing the user’s identity and location will be sent to Skyguard’s Incident Management Centre (IMC) over GPRS and a two way voice call is initiated. Our Controllers will assess the incident and follow your bespoke emergency procedures.

The compact size, simple operation and quality features of the GEMshield mean that it is suitable for a wide range of applications. The GEMshield has a host of additional features which, combined with the Skyguard subscription provides a complete personal safety service for any emergency situation.

The GEMshield has been certified by ACPO's coveted "Secured by Design"; an initiative which guarantees national police approval of a product through meeting the highest security standards in its design.

The GEMshield has a wide range of useful features:

GPRS alarm activation

The alarm is activated by holding down the SOS panic button for a few seconds. GPS position co-ordinates and the user’s identity are immediately transmitted via GPRS for cost-effective data transfer, to our Incident Management Centre and a two-way voice call is initiated with the Controller. If the default GPRS connection is not available, the alarm will be sent via SMS as a backup, ensuring the alarm has the best opportunity of being received.

Highly sensitive two-way audio

The GEMshield two-way audio allows the Controller to talk to and reassure the use when the alarm is activated, if safe to do so. The microphone is sensitive up to 2 metres and the loudspeaker is audible up to 2 metres.

Man-down alarm

Enables the device to automatically send an alarm to the IMC if it detects a rapid movement followed by a sudden impact. this feature is vital if the user falls or experiences a sudden impact such as a car accident, and may not be able to raise an alarm manually. Man-down can be permanently enabled or disabled, or manually activated, depending upon each user's requirments.

Speed dial

The GEMshield features three buttons which can be programmed with three phone numbers of your choosing. This allows the user to call a nominated contact, using the device as a mobile phone.

Voice memo (Amber Alert)

This feature enables users to leave voice messages specific to their situation, such as who they are meeting and for how long. This may be useful if GPS is not available, such as when entering a building. The memo is then immediately available to Controllers if an alarm is activated.

Position reports

Position reports will record the user’s location at a specific date and time and can be sent at regular configurable intervals or manually whenever needed. The user’s location can be viewed on an online map at Skyguard’s secure Customer Service Centre portal.

Advanced GPS technology

The GEMshield uses the latest Atheros AR1511 chip which contains new patent-pending features specifically designed to address the most challenging navigation environments. These enhancements provide considerable performance advances with Time To First Fix (TTFF) reacquisition times reduced by almost half, and positional accuracy increased by more than 50 percent.

Secured by Design certification

The GEMshield is one of the few devices in the industry to be certified by ACPO's coveted "Secured by Design"; an initiative which guarantees national police approval of a product through meeting the highest security standards in its design.

High capacity battery and power management

All the components in the GEMshield have been optimised to extend the battery life as much as possible. The GEMshield is fitted with a high capacity rechargeable Lithium-Ion battery with a standby time of up to 100 hours.

Status LEDs

The Status LEDs display information showing the user exactly what the device is doing. Indicators include GPS availability, GPRS connection and low battery warning.

Customer Service Centre

Individual customer access to Skyguard’s online Customer Service Centre (CSC) enables the user or administrator to securely update and maintain their account details and personal information in real-time, 24/7. This means the information is immediately available to Controllers if an alarm is activated. The CSC also allows customers to create bespoke alarm escalation procedures depending on your requirements.

Recording

All calls and actions are digitally recorded on secure servers within our IMC, should they be needed as legal evidence. Skyguard’s audio recordings have led to numerous successful prosecutions.
